Jack watched the Earth rotate beneath him. The blue and white surface of the planet changing to black as the station’s orbit moved it through its shadow once more, a cycle that repeated day after day, year after year.

Still no lights, Jack thought.

He didn’t expect any. He hadn’t seen lights on the surface of the planet since he emerged…
